Smoking – be of any kind- is always harsh on the mouth, the throat and the lungs. So odds are high that if you are new to smoking, you’ll have some sort of trouble with either of the three. In this post, however, we are going to list a few tips that will help you avoid a sore throat from smoking weed:
1) Drink plenty of water
This is indeed a clichéd point, so much so that I do not even feel like listing it. But, writing is my bread and butter, so I am getting rid of this point early in the list.
If you are just trying to stave off a cottonmouth or a dry throat, consider taking a few sips of water every few minutes. However, that won’t relieve a majorly irritated throat – to do this feel free to gulp a full glass of water both before and after smoking.
2) Go small
The victims of a sore throat from weed smoking are usually the ones who take too big a hit. Most people think that it’s the smoke that causes a sore throat; however, that isn’t always the case. Even excessive coughing could inflame the larynx and upper airways.
In a nutshell, the more you cough, the more sensitive your airways become and the end result is more cough again. There is a very simple solution to this problem- just take smaller hits.
3) Vaping
Say goodbye to your joints, bongs and bows and embrace a vape! Vapes are known for their knack to heat marijuana below combustion temperatures, ensuring that only the ‘benign’ chemicals are released. Thus, with a vape, you get a clean, crisp vapor that provides you the same high as you would get with other conventional methods. Many people have also suggested that using a glass blunt pipe instead of tobacco wraps or joint papers will help prevent a sore throat.
4) Have a cup of tea with honey
There’s perhaps no better natural remedy than honey when it comes to the throat. In fact, Ayurveda holds a very high view of honey and thus you’d often see it being included in many formulations for cough and cold.
Consider drinking a warm cup of your favorite green tea with a spoonful or two of honey in it. Trust me, it may sound like basic stuff, but it works wonders.
5) Salt-water gargles
This is the centuries-old formula for treating sore throat and is effective even against the one caused by marijuana smoking.
Add a tablespoon of salt to a glass of lukewarm water, then gargle and spit.
Caution: Do not swallow!
6) Choose Throat-friendly snacks
Having your favorite Doritos isn’t gonna help you with your sore throat; in fact, it may worsen your condition. Opt for a bowl of homemade chicken noodle soup instead and witness what difference it makes.
Be sure to pick only low-sodium (less salty) snacks as doing the opposite will only dehydrate you and make matters worse.
