The universities across the United States are coming up with innovative courses for cannabis enthusiasts. Following suit, The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia recently announced that it would soon begin offering a Master of Business Administration degree program with a special focus on the cannabis industry.
The university has reportedly begun enrolling students in its Cannabis Industry Option (MBA in Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Business) program, and the online classes are expected to begin in September.
The MBA program, which is being dubbed as the first-of-its-kind by university officials, will offer 4 elective courses crafted in partnership with the University’s Substance Use Disorders Institute, with inputs from marijuana industry professionals.
The university’s website says that the coursework will include the following things:
- Introduction to the medical marijuana industry.
- Regulation and Finance
- Marijuana Marketing and Sales
- Research and Development
- Health Economics
- Strategy and Management
- International pharmaceutical business
The executive director of the University, Andrew Peterson, said in a press release that the degree program will provide a marijuana-specific training to professionals for the burgeoning industry.“There are a number of unique aspects to the medical marijuana and hemp industries, and those in this new industry have been testing the waters for the past few years,” said Peterson. “This program will help to formalize those teachings for those who are presently working in the cannabis industry, are entering the landscape, or are passionate about other fields associated with the industry.”
Peterson added that a combination of healthcare, pharmaceutical, and marijuana business knowledge and expertise will be extremely valuable as graduates move ahead in their career.”
Notably, this MBA degree program by the University of Sciences, Philadelphia is the second graduate degree program to lay focus on the flourishing marijuana industry. Last month, the University of Maryland announced that it was all set to launch a Master of Science in Medical Cannabis Science and Therapeutics degree program.
