Over the years, many celebrities have confessed their love for weed. As the drug finds its legal space in society, a number of notable names are coming in support of cannabis, the plant that bestowed them with the much-needed motivation to carry on with their hectic schedules.
Given below is a list of celebs who have a soft spot for marijuana:
Lady Gaga
Not every celebrity begins to smoke weed for fun. Some may have valid medical reasons to roll a joint, though in the case of celebs this may be a little debatable.
In her documentary, Gaga: Five Foot Two, the singer said that she consumed marijuana to deal with the symptoms of fibromyalgia, a disorder characterized by widespread musculoskeletal ache accompanied by sleep issue, fatigue, memory and mood issues.
Doug Benson
In case you are not familiar with the name, Doug Benson is an American comedian and TV actor, besides being a marijuana activist. Through his podcasts, “Doug Loves Movies” and “Getting Doug With High”, the comedian has confessed his longing for weed.
His love for pot, however, isn’t new-found. In fact, in his early 20s, Benson even created a weed-oriented comedy stage show named Marijuana-Logues, with a few comedian friends.
Willie Nelson
Putting Willie Nelson’s name on any ‘weed list’ is just a formality as everybody knows that Nelson is one of the most infamous celebrities to have openly declared their love for the drug. In 2010, while ‘just’ 77 years old, the singer was apprehended when 6 ounces of marijuana was discovered in his possession. Nelson, though, was shortly released after paying a $2,500 bond.
Jennifer Aniston
We aren’t so certain about her present weed habits, but courtesy of a 2001 interview with Rolling Stone, we can at least say that she used to smoke it. “I enjoy it every once a while. There’s nothing wrong in that. Everything in moderation,” RS had quoted her as saying.
Brad Pitt
Speaking of Aniston reminded us of Brad Pitt.
Many people believe that the real reason behind Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s divorce was marijuana. The gossip world is of the view that Jolie had an intense dislike for her former husband’s weed-smoking habit as it was creating a negative atmosphere for their children. In an interview, the actor claimed to have spent most of the late ‘90s “hiding out from the celebrity thing, smoking way too much dope.”
Megan Fox
In an interview with British GQ in 2009, Fox claimed that she had gotten into a lot of trouble because of her love for weed. The sexiest woman in the world (2008) ended the interview with these lines, “I hope they legalize it soon and when they do it, I will be the first f***ing person in line to purchase my pack of joints.”
Matthew McConaughey
Interestingly, Matthew McConaughey’s debut film, Dazed and Confused, revolved around a number of topics, including — yeaa, you’re right — weed.
McConaughey was once arrested while playing the bongos naked at 2 A.M., on grounds of marijuana possession. The charges though were later dropped. But you don’t usually go about doing such things at 2 A.M in the sober state. Do you?
Seth Rogens
Rogens recently admitted on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert that he smokes “weed all day every day” In case you are not familiar with the name in question, Seth Rogens is a popular Canadian-American actor, comedian.
“I do smoke a lot of weed. Yes, I actually enjoy weed in both my personal life and on film sets,” the comedian said on the show.
Of course, one can’t be high all day and still meet commitments. So, Rogens is trying to be a little humorous here. But, that doesn’t change the fact that he loves marijuana.
Barack Obama
When talking about weed, the only notable names that come into our mind are from the entertainment world. But what about others, like politicians? Even they can have an inclination towards consuming cannabis rather than just passing/rejecting bills aimed at legalizing the same.
In Obama’s biography titled Barack Obama: The Story, author David Maraniss has described how the former President of the United States enjoyed rolling a ‘J’ with his basketball gang, informally referred to as “The Choom Gang”, which stands for ‘smoking marijuana’ in the Hawaiian language.
Cardi B
In October, 2017, the rapper was reportedly asked to leave a hotel in Albany, N.Y. for allegedly smoking weed inside her hotel room on the second floor. Cardi B, however, denied taking weed and even backed the ‘innocence’ of her other team members.
In a number of interviews, Cardi B has confessed that she was a big pothead ‘once upon a time’. However, she doesn’t resort to smoking weed now.
Well, do you believe that?
Queen Latifah
In the year 1996, Queen Latifah, a Grammy Award-winning rapper, comedian and model, was busted on the roadside for possessing marijuana.
In another instance, she dropped a hint on a prime-time TV show when she responded with the words “a blunt” to a question asking her about the “things she wraps”.
Although there haven’t been any recent instances which point to her consuming weed. But, you know, as the old saying goes, “Old habits die hard.”
Jay Z
Jay Z credits weed for the success of his song Izzo as he was having trouble finishing the song until he got high, one fine day (or night).
Jay Z’s net worth is around $900 million according to Forbes’s 2018 “Hip-Hop’s Wealthiest Artists” rankings. So, the common perception that smoking weed is a loser’s way to avoid reality has just been contradicted here.
Kindly Note: Snoop Dogg hasn’t been named in the list; well, because who are we to talk about someone who even President Trump couldn’t stop from smoking (outside the White House)!
