Today we speak to one of the most prominent names in the Cannabis industry from Ireland, Delia Keane. We discuss her interest in cannabis, how it all started, and even her latest book on cannabis recipes.
We’ve been following Delia on social media for some time now. If you are following entrepreneurs who are making waves in this industry, then her name would have certainly popped up sometime or the other.
Known in Ireland as the “Queen of Cannabis”, we decided that it was high time we got in touch with her for an interview.
Huffsnpuffs: So Delia, let’s get straight to it. Not many women are working actively in the cannabis sector. What led you to focus on cannabis?
Delia: This journey goes back to when I was younger and when I was going through depression due to PTSD. At that time, I did not get the necessary help that was needed. By not correctly dealing with my issues, further led to my weight gain and excessive anxiety.
During this phase, I read a lot of stuff about self-help, and one of the things that caught my eye was the healing properties of cannabis.
As fate would have it, I planned for an adventure trip to Holland for two weeks. That two-week holiday turned into a 10-year stay where I worked in multiple restaurants at the Hague.
HuffsnPuffs: Wow! that sounds like a pretty interesting story. How in the world does a two-week holiday turn into a 10-year stay? Was the cannabis that good?
Delia: (Laughs) It certainly was, but cannabis was more of a support system for me rather than fun. I suffered a lot of chronic back pain at that time and nothing was helping. This is where I started experimenting with cannabis with recipes.
At that time a lot of people swore by cannabis, and that it had a certain chemical makeup that helps in providing relief to even chronic pains.
Since I was so desperate to do something about my pain, I gave it a try and it started to do wonders.
HuffsnPuffs: So this is where the interest in cannabis peaked medically?
Delia: Yes. It was natural for me to know more about this super plant which helped me manage my pain. I started looking and researching for more benefits it had to give.
HuffsnPuffs: So, did you find more benefits?
Delia: Absolutely! There were researches done by labs on how cannabis was linked to healing broken bones and even strengthening them from future problems. I also found out how cannabis was helping people with ADHD/ ADD and was shown to be much safer than Adderall and Ritalin.
I have the first-hand experience, where cannabis helped people suffering from alcoholism. Of course, it’s not completely risk-free, but in my personal opinion, it is safer than alcohol.
HuffsnPuffs: There have been several reports about paranoia, depression, and panic attacks after cannabis consumption. What is your take on the safety of cannabis use for mental health?
Delia: Proceed with caution is what I have to say. In my experience problems like schizophrenia worsen with cannabis usage. Everything in the world has side effects and nothing is completely risk-free. I have personally had experiences of hallucinations, memory loss, and paranoia so anything overdone will have its negative effects. Even drinking too much water causes issues. Nothing should be abused. I advise everyone to always obtain drugs from authorized places and consume them in moderation.
HuffsnPuffs: That makes sense, and thank you for being honest about the side effects of cannabis. We have taken several interviews and people in the cannabis industry refrain from speaking too much about its side effects.
Let’s move on to a lighter note, your recent book has been launched. What’s that all about?
Delia: Well, I have had so much experience with Cooking with cannabis, that I simply had to share it with the world.
My book Let’s Get Baked has tons of recipes, cannabis sweets, cocktails, and more. You can check it out on Amazon. It has my 10 years experience in cooking with Cannabis.
Our cannabis discussions ended here, but we spent over an hour discussing her spiritual journey and interest in the mind. How meditation changed her life, but that is for another time and another article.
Do check out Delia’s websites for more information on her adventures. We wish her all the very best!
